What It Is

The Solution for Any Staircase Shape

A curved stairlift uses a rail that is precisely bent and fabricated to match the exact contour of your staircase. Whether your stairs have a single landing turn, a spiral, or multiple bends, the rail is built from measurements taken inside your home.

Western Stairlifts installs the Harmar Curved, a fully custom lift with a powered swivel seat, retractable seatbelt, and top- and bottom-mounted controls so the chair is always within reach.

Because every rail is made to order, installation typically takes one to two days. We handle the full process from measurement through final walkthrough.

  • Fully custom rail bent to your exact staircase
  • Powered swivel seat for safe on/off at any level
  • Adjustable seat height, armrests, and footrest
  • Battery backup keeps you moving during outages

Is It Right For You?

A Curved Stairlift Handles What a Straight One Cannot

If your staircase has any kind of bend, turn, or intermediate landing, a curved stairlift is the right fit. If your stairs run in a single straight line, you may qualify for a faster and more affordable straight stairlift instead.

Stairs with a Turn or Landing

Any staircase with a 90° or 180° turn, a mid-flight landing, or a winding shape is a perfect candidate for a curved lift.

Spiral or Helical Staircases

Continuous spirals and tight helical stairs can often be accommodated with a custom-radius curved rail.

Split-Level or Multi-Landing Homes

Homes with multiple floors and offset landings can be served by a single custom curved rail in many cases.

Single Straight Staircase

A straight stairlift is faster to install and more affordable. We will confirm the right fit during your free evaluation.

Not sure which type applies to your staircase? Our free evaluation will tell you exactly.

The Process

From Measurement to Your First Ride

01

Free In-Home Evaluation

A trained technician visits your home and takes precise measurements of every inch of your staircase — including all bends, turns, and landings. This data drives the custom rail fabrication.

02

Custom Rail Fabrication

Your measurements go directly to the Harmar manufacturing facility. The rail is precision-bent to match your staircase exactly. This typically takes a few days to a week before the install date.

03

Professional Installation

Our factory-trained team arrives with your custom rail and completes the full installation in one to two days. No wall anchors, no structural changes. The rail attaches only to the stair treads.

04

Full Walkthrough

Before we leave, your technician walks through every feature: controls, remotes, safety sensors, powered swivel, and battery backup. We stay until you feel completely confident riding it.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a curved stairlift cost?
Curved stairlift pricing depends on your staircase length, number of bends, and the specific model. Because every rail is custom-fabricated, pricing is confirmed after our free in-home evaluation. We do not publish a list price because no two installations are identical.
How long does installation take?
Most curved stairlift installations take one to two days. Day one is typically rail fitting and carriage mounting. Day two (if needed) completes wiring, controls, and the full test ride. You will have a working lift before we leave.
Does insurance or Medicare cover it?
Standard Medicare Part B does not cover stairlifts. Some VA programs and state Medicaid waivers may offer assistance. Our team can point you toward available resources during your evaluation.
Can a curved rail be built for a spiral staircase?
In most cases, yes. Tight helical spirals and open-center staircases can often be accommodated, though we confirm this during the measurement visit. Some extremely tight spirals may require a vertical platform lift instead.
What if I lose power?
Harmar Curved lifts include battery backup. The system continues operating through power outages so you are never stranded between floors.
Can it be removed if I no longer need it?
Yes. The rail and carriage bolt to the stair treads only. Removal leaves no lasting damage to walls or flooring. Many families have us install a lift and remove it later when their circumstances change.
